Bangla Hunt Desk: A dam is being built on the Neelam River by a Chinese company. And the residents of Balochistan have started protesting against it. Residents of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir are protesting. China and Pakistan have spoken out against the project. A torch rally has been held in Muzaffarabad against the project. The slogans of the procession were “Save the sea, save Muzaffarabad” and “Neelam Jhilam ko behne do, hame zinda rehne do”.
According to reports, thousands of people from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and other places took part in the rally. Pakistan and China have signed an agreement on the construction of hydropower plants in Azad Pattan and Kohala. The 600.6 MW Azad Pattan Hydel Power Project is part of the China-Pakistan Financial Corridor (CPEC). The ৪ 1.54 billion project is being worked on by China's Gionja Group Company.
This project is expected to be completed by 2026. Three Gorges Corporation of China, International Finance Corporation and Silk Bank Fund are involved in this project. As the residents of Muzaffarabad are trying to save the rivers by blocking the project, the project has raised fears of flooding in the area. In the name of China-Pakistan Financial Corridor, both the countries are looting natural resources from Balochistan. And for this reason, the residents there have expressed their anger against this project.
